Kimberley Economic Forum - 2011
Uncharted Possibilities
President's Foreword
It is with great excitement that the Kununurra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) presents the Kimberley Economic Forum 2011. In a year when Kununurra celebrates its 50th anniversary and the East Kimberley is in the midst of the most significant expansion and development program in its history it is fitting that the town can host this event to highlight the incredible opportunities that exist throughout the Kimberley Region and particularly in the East Kimberley.
This annual event is a great opportunity for any small or large business with an interest or investment in the Kimberley region to gain an overview of the big picture for the region and the economic challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
The East Kimberley region is growing rapidly benefiting from the economic stability that comes from an uncommonly diverse set of major economic drivers. These include numerous mineral resources like diamonds, nickel, lead and silver, a strongly expanding agriculture industry, strong tourism growth based upon world renowned natural assets and rich indigenous culture, a vibrant small business environment and major public service delivery hub for the wider region. This diversity in economic drivers makes for a robust economy rich with opportunities in a wide range of areas. The exciting growth in the West Kimberley both onshore and offshore is similarly precedented and holds great promise for future growth of the entire Kimberley.
For those of us that reside and do business in the Kimberley region, the benefits of its economic vibrancy are self evident. For those who are far away, I sincerely encourage you to take this opportunity to explore what opportunities may exist for your business to participate in the bright future of the Kimberley region.
The Kimberley Economic Forum aims to:
- Raise awareness of opportunities, challenges and issues relating to Economic Development in the Kimberley Region.
- Provide a forum for Kimberley Businesses and Communities to engage with each other and with interested stakeholders from outside the region.
- Provide a unique opportunity for organisations to engage the Regional Business Community and in doing so outline their vision, management approach and the economic benefits their development will provide to the region.
These objectives will be addressed throughout the program with guest speakers representing the Resources, Tourism and Primary Production sectors, as well as Labour, Skills and Housing Issues throughout the region. Guest Speakers will represent both the public and private sector.
This “not to be missed” opportunity, will bring together highly qualified and experienced speakers, and provide a terrific networking opportunity so often missing in regional Australia.
I invite you to take up this opportunity to be involved in this unique forum and to register your participation to ensure you don’t miss out on the most important business event for the Kimberley in 2011.
We look forward to welcoming you to Kununurra and hosting this event in our stunning East Kimberley.
